Have you ever considered that doing more healthy things before you go to work each day will actually improve your day rather than hinder it? It might be time to make a change to your normal, everyday routine just to see what effect it might have on you and your surroundings.
Your morning depends a lot on whether or not you are a morning person. Some people love to jump out of bed and start their day with a bang, while other people can barely manage to get up at all.
Yet no matter who you are, having healthy habits in the morning is the key to having healthy days and ultimately, a healthy life.
1. Drink Water
Drink water first thing in the morning and get the digestive system going. This rehydrates your body, revs up your digestive system, and gets things flowing. You may notice positive changes like clearer skin and better digestion.
2. Take a Deep Breath
Why not enjoy that glass of water on your patio or balcony? Getting outside and taking in a deep breath of fresh air is a great way to wake you up and to make you feel alive and well. A breath of fresh air in the morning can get you in the mood to be productive.
3. Make Your Bed
Making your bed in the morning might seem like a waste of time, but it’s actually a great way to start your day. Finishing your first task gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment and motivates you to finish more goals throughout the day. That’s why people who make their beds tend to be more productive.
4. Move Your Body
It’s not just your mind that has to wake up in the morning, it’s your body too. No matter what you’re doing for the rest of the day, your body will be active if you begin your day with movement.
There are various morning workouts you can do that are convenient and quick. If you don’t want to work out, you can also do stretches to help loosen your muscles and joints. Or just dance around or go for a quick walk. It doesn’t have to be a full, intense workout. Anything that gets you moving is a great start.
5. Say Positive Affirmations
Self-appreciation is important. Find different things you enjoy about yourself and say them out loud to yourself while looking in the mirror. Face yourself and speak positive truths.
6. Eat a Good Breakfast
You should always make time for breakfast. Try some eggs or fruit or oats. Or make a smoothie. Avoiding processed foods, like most kinds of cereal, is a good idea. And if you’re in a hurry and can’t sit down, you can always make a smoothie instead!
7. Avoid Technology for the First Hour
Do you sleep with your cell phone next to you and grab for it first thing when you wake? This is not a good habit. If you choose to resist the temptation to check your email and Facebook feed until at least an hour after waking up, you’ll find that your mind is more clear, focused and happy.
Start your day with some positive thoughts. Whether it’s the news, quotes, or a novel you love, literature helps stimulate your brain and your imagination.
9. Feel Gratitude
The best way to start your morning is by thanking for everything in your life you feel grateful for and that makes you who you are today.
Practice mindfulness and try to focus on the present moment. Research shows that by practising mindfulness, you change the physical structure of your brain so that it becomes easier for you to feel resilience and peace.
Work day or off day, planning ahead allows you to be productive, and to fit in as much as you want throughout the day. Spread out your day so that you know what to expect and avoid feeling rushed. Commit to your plan as much as you can, but allow room for the random disruptions that life can occasionally bring.
